Introduction: Incidence of accidents is increasing and become one of the causes of fractures in Indonesia. However, Indonesian people prefer to bone setters for fracture treatment, resulting in an increase of neglected fractures. The purpose of this study was to find out the factors that most patients choose alternative treatment to bone setters and the duration of fracture treatment that is not done medically.


Method: A descriptive quantitative study with medical record literature survey is done. All fracture patients who have undergone alternative treatment for bone setter that came to the Orthopedic Polyclinic at H.M Rabain Muara Enim Hospital in January 2021 - December 2022 who met the inclusion criteria with a total sampling of 17 people.


Result: As many as 30% of neglected fracture patients are aged 46-55 years and the rest are younger patients. 40% of patients who choose bone setter treatment are based on family recommendations, and 30% each because they are afraid of surgery and fear of requiring high costs. And last 66% of patients went to bone setters for 3 weeks – 3 months before they finally went to advanced medical facilities.


Conclusion: Delays in treatment are often due to family recommendations, medical expenses and afraid of surgery, causing patients to go to alternative bone setter treatments and causing the increase of incidence of neglected fractures.
